A MAN from who was seriously injured after being assaulted at his North-East home has died in hospital.
Jonathan Gilbert, 43, had been in the RVI at Newcastle since the attack in Sycamore Gardens in Crook, County Durham, on the evening of Friday, April 20.
He suffered serious head injuries in the assault and late last night he died at the hospital without regaining consciousness.
A post mortem examination is taking place later today to establish a cause of death.
Last Monday 24-year-old Christopher Morgan, who is from Consett appeared before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court charged with assaulting Mr Gilbert.
He then appeared at Durham Crown Court later in the week and was remanded in custody, with his next appearance due on July 6.
Discussions will now take place between the police and the Crown Prosecution Service regarding what charges Morgan may face when he is next before the court.
