The newly reformed Cockfield F.C. have finished their first season back on a high at the top of Division 2 in the Wear Valley Sunday League.

Cockfield finished ten points ahead of the runners up, Shildon Royal George F.C, after an unbeaten season that saw 18 wins and 2 draws, they also carried home the 2nd Division Cup after a final against BA Welcome played at the new Bishop Auckland F.C. ground.

The lads reached the quarter finals of the All Divisional Cup and the semi finals of the Darlington Cup as well. Hopefully next season will see them be just as successful in Division 1 with the incentive of new changing rooms and a run in the Durham County Sunday Cup as well as re-entering all the competitions they played in this season. The team has been captained most of the season by Gareth Matthews and the top goal scorer went to Tony Callaghan.

A big thanks goes to the team sponsors M Hallimond Building Services Limited, Revolution Power Limited and Eldrett Finch Limited for supplying everything from strips to match balls, and to Andrew and Sas (Kings Head) for their hospitality and for feeding the troops after every home match! We'd also like to thank the team manager, Andrew Bowman, for rallying the lads together to start up again and getting the best from the team week after week and of course the team: Kyle Etherington, Michael Heckley, Anthony 'Woody' Wood, Brian Denham, Michael Dowson, Gareth Matthews, Tony Callaghan, Kevin Bromley, Paul Dawes, Peter 'Ferg' Sedgewick, Gary Close, Dean Yorke, Johnny Stephenson, Joel Robinson, Chris Stewart, Jonathan 'Duck' Kellet, Andrew Gibson, Jonathan Milroy and David 'Smurf' Bainbridge.

A huge thank you to all those that turned out in all weathers to support us and we hope to see you again next season!
