CROFT CIRCUIT showcased some of its star attractions this week, as the Darlington track gears up for its maiden four-wheeled meeting of the year.

Among those in the spotlight was the Speedworks Toyota Avensis team which will feature in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship and Monster Energy British Rallycross drivers Kevin Procter, from Bedale, and 16-year-old Paige Bellerby, from Northallerton in a Ford Focus and Suzuki Swift, respectively.

In addition, the reigning Porsche Carrera Cup team, Redline Racing, from Stockton, put their car through its paces, while Charlie Hemingway, from Northallerton, took to the track in his mint condition Ford Escort Mk2 ahead of its appearance later this year in the Roger Albert Clark Rally.

This weekend, though, is all about the British Automobile Racing Club, which will be running a total of 14 races.

Mazda MaX 5, Crossle 9S, Chevron GR8, Clubmans and Sports and Saloons are among the categories of cars vying for honours, while joining them will also be the Kumho BMW Challenge and the BSA 125cc Gearbox Kart Championship.

Croft Circuit manager, Tracey Morley, said she was excited about what the forthcoming season will bring.

“We have a fabulous programme of events lined up starting this weekend and running right through the year,” she said. “The diversity of our events – from beginner and club-level right up to the dizzying heights of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship – and the fact we are able to stage some of the region’s biggest sporting events is something of which we are very proud.

“We believe we’ve got a really exciting balance of events that offers something for everyone.”
