A PERVERT who groped bus passengers was yesterday locked up and will be kicked out of Britain at the end of his sentence after being told by a judge: “You’re not welcome here.”

Sex pest Prasath Selvarajah was caught after police released on-board CCTV images of a man suspected of a spate of indecent assaults.

Most of the attacks happened on buses between Middlesbrough and Hartlepool in a fortnight last November on women aged 16 to 21.

Sri Lanka-born Selvarajah, a failed asylum-seeker, of Essex Street, Middlesbrough, was arrested after the press appeal, and later admitted ten sexual assault charges.

Duncan McReddie, mitigating, accepted the crimes were “distressing and disturbing” but told Teesside Crown Court the 25-year-old had borderline learning disabilities.

Recorder of Middlesbrough Judge Peter Fox told Selvarajah, who had no previous convictions, he had traumatised his six victims.

Jailing him for two-and-a-half years, he told him: “You would not have behaved towards young women in your own country as you did here.

“However limited your intelligence, I cannot possibly accept that you did not realise you were doing wrong.

“It is to be hoped that upon your release from prison you will be immediately deported because you are not welcome here.

“You must stay out of this country because you have a distorted approach to young women and present a danger to them.”

Prosecutor Christine Egerton told how one 16-year-old will now not leave the house without a panic alarm, and others are afraid to travel alone.

Five of his victims were fondled on buses in Middlesbrough, Stockton and Billingham and the sixth was inappropriately touched in Middlesbrough town centre.

A 16-year-old student who Selvarajah sat next to on a bus and then followed when she jumped off could not deter him even when she ran into a shop seeking help.

Miss Egerton said jobless Selvarajah tried to kiss her, told the terrified teenager she was “hot” and asked to go home with her.

In a statement, the girl revealed how she had nightmares and said the ordeal “came rushing back” when she saw the CCTV image of her attacker in the press.
