A POLISH farmworker killed his sister because he owed her ‘tens of thousands of pounds’ before taking his own life, an inquest has heard.

This morning, Durham coroner Andrew Tweddle recorded a verdict of unlawful killing into the death of 27-year-old Danuta Domagalska after hearing how she was found with strangulation injuries in a shallow grave close to her home at New Moor Farm, Walworth Gate, near Darlington in August last year.

He also recorded that her brother, Piotr Lawniczak, took his own life. He was found hanging in some woodland nearby.

Detective superintendent Adrian Green told the inquest at Chester-le-Street Magistrates Court that Mr Lawniczak owed Mrs Domagalska and her husband substantial amounts of money.
