A DEVASTATED mother has appealed for burglars who stole jewellery bought for her stillborn baby girl to find their consciences.

Sarah Bowman said she can not even face returning to her home in Crook, County Durham, after burglars broke in on Saturday night.

The thieves took several valuable items from her home In Newlands View, including a Nintendo Wii, laptop and digital camera, but Ms Bowman said the most precious item taken was a pendant she bought nine years ago.

The nine-carat gold guardian angel cross pendant was bought nine years ago for her stillborn daughter Alisha Lucia, and is still marked with the baby’s blood after it was put around her neck.

The pendant, which Ms Bowman said she wears at special and family occasions so her daughter can be with them, had a picture of an angel on the front and “keep me safe” inscribed on the back.

Also taken were a ninecarat gold ragdoll pendant which was missing one clear stone eye and two pink stones on the dress, and a larger cross with ruby stones in it, which were both bought for Alisha Lucia.

Ms Bowman said: “I hope whoever took these treasures realises they have the blood of a dead baby on their thieving hands. They took some valuable things, like a games console and laptop but things like that can be replaced.

“I can never replace her gold as she wore it from when she born until she was taken away from me to go to the mortuary.”

Detective Constable Dave Rooney, from Crook CID, said some of the property had been recovered, but not the jewellery.

He said: “All victims of burglary find it distressing but in these particular circumstances where these items are the only remaining contact with the dead child, it must be heart wrenching.

“It’s impossible to comprehend what that must be like to have your link to your child ripped away from you.”

Two men have been arrested and were being questioned by police last night.
