THE environment and climate change were the subjects for discussion at an MP's green fair on Saturday.

Dozens of visitors attended the event in Bishop Auckland, hosted by the town's MP, Helen Goodman, at the town hall, which was sponsored by Thorn Lighting and included organisations such as the Environment Agency, the Wear Rivers Trust and Durham Wildlife Trust.

Ms Goodman said: "I was delighted that people turned up to exhibit at and visit the fair despite the atrocious weather conditions.

"We had a good mix of statutory, voluntary and business organisations attending and demonstrating that the environment is a key consideration for so many people and groups.

"The climate change discussion was very interesting and we were indebted to Thorn Lighting for sponsoring the event and taking such an active part in the day.

"Engaging with people on green issues is vitally important if we are to work together to tackle the real threat from climate change and I hope that we can build on the work that was done on Saturday to do just that within the Bishop Auckland constituency."
