The jury in the trial of Raoul Moat's alleged accomplices was sent home to continue its deliberations at 10.30am tomorrow.

Karl Ness and Qhuram Awan claim they were held hostage by the former Newcastle doorman during his rampage in July.

Ness, 26, of Dudley, North Tyneside, is alleged to have been with the steroid addict on the night he shot and killed karate expert Chris Brown, 29.

Moat then shot and wounded ex-girlfriend Samantha Stobbart, 22, as Ness waited nearby.

Doorman Awan, 23, of Blyth, Northumberland, is alleged to have helped the pair by driving a getaway car.

He drove the 37-year-old in his modified black Lexus to where Moat shot and blinded Northumbria Police traffic officer PC David Rathband, 43.

Both men were with Moat when he robbed a chip shop, the prosecution allege.

The alleged accomplices told a Newcastle Crown Court jury they went along with Moat's demands because they feared for their lives and those of their families.

Awan and Ness deny conspiracy to murder, the attempted murder of PC Rathband, a firearms offence and robbery of a fish and chip shop in Northumberland.

Ness also denies the murder of karate instructor Chris Brown.
