THE hardworking Redcar MP has celebrated taking on his 1,000th piece of local casework in less than nine months.

Liberal Democrat Ian Swales met Michael Jenson to discuss his concerns about the lack of street lighting along large stretches of the Coast Road making it dangerous at night for pedestrians and joggers.

And he is using the meeting to highlight the range of work MPs can take on for their constituents.

Mr Swales said: "My team and I deal with a wide variety of issues raised by constituents, both local and national. From hospitals and housing to local business and benefits.

"Often we can help directly but many people simply want help in navigating their way through complex and bureaucratic systems to access the support they need. Sometimes it's only a small problem but they are things that can make a real difference to people's lives.

"I'm taking this opportunity to draw attention to the help we can provide. I think a lot of people don't realise the range of things we can do for them."

The MP holds fortnightly surgeries across the constituency and no appointment is necessary to attend.
