An Environmentally Friendly firm is introducing a ground breaking anti-bacterial product to the North East which kills diseases such as MRSA, Swine flu and Legionnaires.

Entrepreneurs Adam Hayton and Gurjit Kaila of Cleantech Solution Services Ltd have gone into partnership with the UKs sole supplier of TouchClean® - Midlands based Dortrend International.

Dortrend hold the exclusivity in the UK, but now Cleantech will be able to provide North East businesses safeguard against hidden, deadly bacteria.

TouchClean® is a non visible coating that contains nano technology derived properties and uses ‘green chemistry’ to be both human and environmentally friendly. The silent guardian works 24 hours, seven days a week to protect people against viruses, bacteria and mould organisms.

Speaking of the 2009 swine flu pandemic, Adam said: “When we saw the swine flu outbreak, we looked about for a possible solution. We then came across TouchClean® and saw that the only company who had the rights of this product was Dortrend International based in the Midlands.”

With support from Redcar’s Business Enterprise Team, Adam and Gurjit were also able to buy vital monitoring equipment which can produce results in 15 seconds.

The Enterprise Team which has helped many local businesses over the last four years by providing start-up grants, ongoing coaching and workshops, contributed towards the purchase of an ATP Hygiene Monitoring System. The portable swab testing system is used in hospitals and similar hygiene-conscious environments, giving fast results.

Based at Skippers Lane Industrial Estate, Cleantech has received ongoing support from The Enterprise Team which has enabled them to enter a fast growing market.

And since TouchClean® was launched in the UK by Dortrend, it has become a best selling product used in many schools, hospitals and other institutions. And has already had several successful trials at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital.

It also has the ability to prevent dust gathering, repel insects, remove odours, and help to preserve building exteriors for longer, so reducing maintenance and restoration costs.

Gurjit Kaila said that Self Cleaning is a big benefit primarily for exterior and glass. Air purification is also a big benefit for interior and exterior both help remove Co2, Nox and Formaldehyde which are found in building material.

And a lot can occur within the oil burning process of transport vehicles. Sick building syndrome (SBS) and Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are found in paint and many older buildings have the following symptoms, Headache, Eye, nose, and throat irritation, Dry cough, Dry, itchy skin, rashes, Dizziness and nausea, Difficulty in concentrating, Fatigue.

TouchClean® is applied as a spray coating to almost any surface where its photocatalytic action is powered by Ultra Violet frequencies in daylight or artificial light enabling it to destroy bacteria, spores, viruses, mould, odours and pollutants.

It avoids the need for chemical cleaning and the by-products are harmless. Once applied it is presents no hazards to people or animals and goes on protecting for many years.

This could also mean that we could have sustainable buildings that self clean and remove air pollution for up to 10 years. The buildings are also UV resistant creating a cooler interior by around four degrees in the summer reducing energy consumption for cooling.

TouchClean® was invented and subsequently manufactured in Japan, where it has helped to make cities such as Tokyo some of the cleanest in the world, and is now also penetrating the markets of North America and parts of Europe.

Cleantech also recently received a loan from UK Steel Enterprise. "We contacted the UK Steel Enterprise - the Tata Steel subsidiary that supports businesses of all sizes with financial packages, advice and premises.

"We then met with Chris Hope who is one of the advisors there. We explained to Chris that we required a loan for working capital and explained what our service and product was about.

"After some research about our technology and two meetings with Chris he agreed that we were in an emerging market and that we had the potential to have a steady growth in a new industry and approved the loan.

"With Chris’s help and expertise we were able to construct a sustainable cash flow which will help us long term to achieve our goals. The loan from the UKSE will really help the business and help us maintain our marketing and sales strategy to help us maximize our potential."

“The Return on Investment when using TouchClean® is on average at least 40%.”
