THE police officer shot and blinded by crazed gunman Raoul Moat is to be fitted with false eyes.
PC David Rathband, 42, left a message on his Twitter page this morning in which he said :"About to leave for Sunderland Royal Hospital to get measured for my new false eyes. It feels like my birthday."
PC Rathband attended an appointment at Sunderland Eye Infimary this morning for the measurement and is due to star on The One Show on BBC1 tonight.
Earlier this week, PC Rathband pledged to raise £1m to help 999 heroes.
He is founding a charity, the Blue Lamp Foundation, which will provide emergency financial help to those injured by criminals.
He said earlier this week: "These brave men and women are there to help the public in their darkest hours. It's the public's turn to help them."
