Dog Control Orders are now in place in Darlington. They have been in place since April 2010.

The council has allocated 54 specified places where people can be fined for littering the grass and pavement with dog fouling.

This means that anyone who does not pick up after their dog has messed, is guilty of an offence, unless they are exempt. A fine can be issued of £75.

NDAs (no dogs allowed areas) have not met with any objections from the public since the proposals were put forward.

The NDAs apply to most schools as well as allotments, play areas and cemeteries.

In some areas dogs must now be kept on a lead at all times.
