A MEDAL-WINNING Chelsea Flower Show garden is just one of the many highlights in this year’s Gateshead Summer Flower Show.

The Bupa Great North Run Gateshead Council garden, with its depiction of 55,000 runners on the Tyne Bridge in viola flower heads, was awarded the Silver Medal at Chelsea and has been rebuilt and recreated for the show, which opened yesterday and runs all weekend.

The show features more than 600 amateur exhibitors spread over 300,000sq ft and 150 traders. It is held in the grounds of Gateshead Central Nursery, in Lobley Hill, Gateshead.

Entry to the show is free to those aged 18 and under when accompanied by an adult. Tickets cost £7 for adults and £5 for concessions. It is open from 10am to 5.30pm each day. A free park-and-ride service will operate from the MetroCentre coach park and from Gateshead Civic Centre.
