A 23-year-old man was airlifted to hospital tonight after falling from a crag.

The Great North Air Ambulance was called to the scene - just off the Cleveland Way - near Great Broughton, North Yorkshire, at 5.46pm.

Paramedics on board together with personnel from Yorkshire Ambulance Service treated the man, who was also suffering from exposure.

Because the patient was immobile and in an inaccessible area, he was winched aboard an RAF search and rescue helicopter from RAF Leconfield and flown to James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.

It is not thought his injuries are serious.
