NORTON’S Durham Senior League season, which a few weeks ago looked like being a disaster, has burst into life, with the team enjoying success in both league and cups.

And this weekend provides the frenetic evidence of their rise from the ashes – last night they were at Felling in the Armbrister Trophy final, and tomorrow they play host to the same team in the League Cup final.

Sandwiched between the finals is a league match at South Hetton this afternoon with bowler Jason Huitson returning from injury. Freescoring youngster Liam Irving earns a call up to the Hetton side.

Unchanged leaders Boldon host third-placed Whitburn in the game of the day, the visitors reconciled to the longterm loss of Neil Johnson because of knee surgery.

Team of the moment Felling miss Danny Clark for their home match with an Eppleton side that includes the returning Kyle Davis, while bottom club Castle Eden include new signing Paul Moss for their crucial match at Marsden.

There’s going to be a new name on the Durham Coast League’s Andrew Dixon Cup tomorrow when Boldon CA lock horns with Seaham Park in the final at Murton (2pm).

Neither side has won the trophy before and while Boldon will start as favourites, thanks to their superior league position, the final could not have come at a better time for Park as they are enjoying their most sustained period of success for several years, with five wins and two draws in their last seven outings.

John Atkinson misses out for Park, however David Morton will make a rare but welcome appearance. Boldon are at full strength.

In today’s league matches, Joe Dodd rests his injured shoulder and Craig Falcus deputises in the Bill Quay team as they seek to extend their leadership at Hylton.

Chris Gardiner is back in the Esh Winning side for their home Durham County League match against Crook, and leaders Kimblesworth select Michael Fishwick for their home game against Tudhoe, who are still unable to call on Kevin Littlefair.

Tynedale’s Richard Darling is injured and misses out on his side’s NTSL match at Swalwell this afternoon. Liam Pringle is drafted in as his replacement.
