A MUSEUM devoted to the Second World War is making visits even more realistic, thanks to the medium of film.

Eden Camp, housed in a former prisoner of war camp near Malton, North Yorkshire, has obtained a licence to play clips from Pathe news reels from the war era.

Museum director Nick Hill said: “Pathe has spent the past few years digitising the old film reels and putting it on their website so now museums like us can simply get a licence and access the footage through their online archives.

“We didn’t have a great deal of the war on film before this so its really going to add something special to our museum.”

The footage will be shown on a large screen to museum-goers in a section of the museum devoted to forces’ reunions.

Mr Hill hopes to coordinate the news reel footage with audio recordings of memories of war veterans, so that visitors can watch what is being described to them.

The museum is open Monday to Sunday, from 10am to 5pm.

Admission is £5.50 for adults and £4.50 for children and pensioners.
