ONE hundred tonnes of horse manure and shavings has been on fire in North Yorkshire this afternoon.
Fire crews were called to the blaze, in a field off the B6275, near the motorway maintenance depot at Barton, near Richmond, at 1.23pm.
Crews from Colburn, Richmond and Darlington have spent time at the scene, and have been assisted by a farmer, who has built a fire-break.
A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the heap of manure measured 30 metres by 20 metres, and is 15ft high.
