A SINGLE mum who had sex almost 200 times with a 12-year-old boy has been told she must serve every day of her nine-year jail term.

Angela Sullivan, 36, appeared before the Criminal Appeal Court, in London, on Wednesday, in an effort to get her sentence cut.

The nine-year term was handed to her at Teesside Crown Court on February 26 after she admitted 10 charges of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

A court heard how Sullivan, of Middlesbrough, had sex with the boy, who cannot be named, 191 times over 10 months last year.

The mother-of-one made a note in her diary each time she had sex with the boy.

Sullivan's barrister, Andrew Turton, argued Judge John Walford, who sentenced her, had punished her too harshly and not given her enough credit for her guilty pleas.

But the appeal judges said there was "no basis" for arguments that Sullivan's jail term fell outside sentencing guidelines.

Lord Justice Moses said: "We take the view, having regard particularly to the sustained period of abuse, that the sentence was not manifestly excessive."

Lord Justice Moses, sitting with Mr Justice Holman and Judge Michael Stokes QC, told the court Sullivan first had sex with her victim at a party where he was "probably so drunk he was unaware" of what was going on.

The court heard she bought the boy gifts and had sex with him many, many times before the matter was reported to police.

Lord Justice Moses said Sullivan's offences involved "breaking down his (her victim's) inhibitions and the exploitation of his failure to realise what was happening between him and this much, much older lady".

He said she should not be treated any differently because she was a woman committing the offences against a young boy.
