THE last soldiers from the 3 Rifles battlalion arrived back in barracks this evening.
The soldiers arrived back at their Edinburgh base at Redford Infantry Barracks where they were met by family and friends following their gruelling six-month tour in Afghanistan.
During the tour the Battlegroup, which recruits heavily from the North-East and North Yorkshire, lost 30 of its soldiers.
Many more were wounded, many of those with life changing injuries.
The Northern Echo launched a campaign to back the 3 Rifles Wristband Appeal, which supports injured soldiers from the battalion and the families of those killed in action.
The wristbands are on sale at The Northern Echo's offices in Darlington and Bishop Auckland.
Members of 3 Rifles will be taking part in homecoming parades in Hereford, on May 1, and two in Edinburgh, on May 7 and 8.
