A MAN arrested over an alleged bomb hoax will not face charges, police said today.
The 47-year-old from Durham City was arrested after a suspicious bag was spotted outside the back of Cotswold outdoor shop, in Silver Street, Durham, on Monday, February 8.
A Durham Police spokesman said no further action would be taken against the man but enquiries are continuing.
After the suspect device was found, several shops were evacuated and a 100m cordon imposed.
Police, firefighters and a bomb disposal squad were scrambled to the scene.
The suspicious bag contained a pop bottle made to look like a petrol bomb, with a fuse.
After examining the device, explosives experts found it to be a hoax.
