AN ethical retailer has taken to the streets to badger parliamentary candidates into making animal welfare a priority.

Staff from Lush Cosmetics, in Middlesbrough, launched their own campaign by dressing as foxes, dogs, orangutans and chickens wielding Vote For Animals placards.

They are urging shoppers to find out where candidates stand on fox hunting and other forms of animal abuse.

In the run-up to the impending General Election, Lush is supporting lobbying group Protecting Animals in Democracy (PAD) which will make public the names of those candidates who want to see a return to fox hunting, support intensive factory farming or animal experiments.

Lush has been awarded the RSPCA Good Business Award for 2006 and 2007 and the PETA Trailblazer Award for Animal Welfare.

Sean Gifford, Lush’s communications manager, said animals cannot vote or protest against their abuse, so rely on people to speak out on their behalf.
