A LONELY hen is starring in her own chick flick after thieves stole the rest of her feathered friends.

Pet owners Heather and Dave Powles have set up CCTV cameras to watch over their last hen, Audrey, in the back garden of their home near Shildon, County Durham.

Audrey had lived happily with her three companions, Judith, Gillian and Eileen, until the first two were plucked from their shed three weeks ago.

The Powles knew they had been stolen because a feeder disappeared at the same time.

A week ago, Eileen was the target of a botched theft attempt that left her with a broken leg.

But when she was snatched for good last Sunday, Mrs Powles decided that stepping up her security was the only way to keep Audrey safe.

She said: “They were ordinary brown hens worth as little as 50p, but they were lovely pets.

“They were good layers, but I would have kept them anyway.

They were very friendly and I enjoyed having them around.

“I hope they are still alive and whoever has them will bring them back. That is all I want.

“We got the cameras on eBay.

They record everything that happens.”

Police have been informed about the thefts.
