A COURAGEOUS cat who helped bring up six kittens shortly after she almost died is still seeking a home.
Tabby Gem was found in a distressed state in Crook three months ago, and taken in by RSPCA Durham and District.
The animal was struggling to breathe was taken to a vet, where she gave birth to two kittens.
However Gem continued to suffer breathing problems, and returned to the vet where she had a further two kittens.
Gem went on to adopt two kittens taken in by the charity -but while all six kittens have now been rehomed, their mother is still looking for an owner.
An RSPCA spokesman said: "If we can't find her a home, she'll have to go to the cattery - but she's been through so much, we'd rather she went to another home."
