A MATRON with 46 years' service is among healthcare staff who are to receive long service awards tonight.

Eighty-seven employees of Derwentside Primary Care Trust (PCT) are to be recognised for years of effort at The Greenhouse, in Annfield Plain, near Stanley.

Kathy Camsell, modern matron, will be the longest-serving member at the ceremony, having clocked up 46 years in the NHS, the past 30 years working in the Derwentside area.

She said: "I have seen lots of changes in the NHS over the years and worked with many dedicated and committed professionals.

"I have enjoyed my work immensely, both in the community and at Shotley Bridge Hospital, where I trained and worked as a ward sister.

"I am delighted to have been invited to join colleagues at the awards ceremony. The event provides the opportunity to celebrate all the wonderful achievements of individuals and teams over the years in the Derwentside area."

People who have worked in the health service for 25 years or more will receive a certificate and gift vouchers from trust chairman Peter Innes.

He said: "It is important that we recognise our staff as they are our most valuable asset.

"I would like to congratulate everyone on their award, and to thank them for their continued hard work and dedication.

"All our staff have the highest standard of professionalism, and these awards give us the chance to acknowledge the high level of commitment of our local healthcare professionals and support staff.

"It is the professionalism and the determination of our staff that enables the PCT and its partners to continue to deliver improved services for the people of Derwentside."
