CHILDREN at a Spennymoor nursery handled the pressure when they stepped up to the penalty spot for a World Cup inspired shoot- out tournament yesterday.
Staff at the Pixley Dell Day Nursery organised the World Cup tea party for more than 20 children, aged two to five.
Along with sporting activities, the children raised money for charity by making a £1 donation to wear their favourite football strips.
Nursery principal Leah Hornsby said: "Everyone certainly enjoyed themselves and there was a number of very competitive youngsters in our penalty shoot-out tournament.
"Catering staff had made special football-themed party food such as St George Cross cakes and this went down very well after all the fun."
As part of their educational programme, the youngsters have also learned about other countries playing in the World Cup.
