A FUTURE Miss World could be crowned at a North-East race track later this month.
Sedgefield Racecourse is hosting the third Miss Durham Beauty Contest - a qualifier for the Miss England event, the winner of which goes on to Miss World.
Last year's Miss Durham attracted more than 50 entrants and was won by Carrianne Green, from Darlington.
This year's event will be contested by 20 finalists during three rounds including evening wear, club wear and football wear.
Jim Allen, general manager at Sedgefield Racecourse, said: "This is the third year we have staged the Miss Durham qualifier and the prestige and reputation of the evening is growing every year.
"We are all very excited about it. This is an event which is for the people of County Durham and it would be a great to see a local girl go on to compete in and even win Miss England."
The Miss Durham finals are at Sedgefield Racecourse on Wednesday, May 24. There will be six races on the night, the first is off at 6.15pm.
Admission is £6 to £14. For further information, call (01740) 621925.
