A TEESSIDE mother has been rewarded for her green thinking.

Fiona Robinson has won Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's Recycling Family of the Month award.

Ms Robinson, who involves her three sons, Luke, seven, Adam, four, and baby Mark, in her recycling efforts at their home in Ruff Tail, Guisborough, has received games and toys donated by TFM Radio.

The radio station's official charity, the Make A Child Smile appeal, aimed at sick and underprivileged children, also benefits from the borough's recycling, with a percentage of money earned from recycled cans.

Ms Robinson said: "We're all determined to recycle, and to win some prizes is a real bonus. We never expected anything like this.

"Recycling is great, and it can only be better for our future generations."

The council's community waste liaison officer, Barbara Webster, who selects the winning family each month, said: "The Robinsons are one of the many families I've met to explain our recycling processes and they deserve this month's award for making such a great effort."

The council's latest initiative is a compost awareness week, which is to be launched on Monday, at Guisborough Forest and Walkway.

The event is aimed at promoting composting bins, which are available at £11.95 from the Walkway's Visitor Centre.
