A SCHOOL has opened a secure cycle shelter to encourage its pupils to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
It has been built at Framwellgate School, on the outskirts of Durham City, and was opened this week by former Sunderland and England footballer Nick Pickering.
The shelter was inspired by the Government's Department for Transport and Department for Education and Skills, which are urging schools to reduce the number of individual car journeys being made by parents.
A school spokeswoman said pupils had welcomed the shelter, adding: "All available places in the shelter have already been snapped up.''
