Wearside League: There was a further change at the top of the table on Saturday when Cleadon SC regained pole position with a crucial victory at Windscale who would have gone joint second had they won.

Following a costly defeat the previous week, Cleadon bounced back to form with a 2-1 win thanks to a brace of goals from Mark Johnson after John Donnelly had given the Cumbrians a half-time advantage.

Birtley Town are third following a 3-1 victory at Gateshead Low Fell who conceded two goals inside the first ten minutes to Tony Thirkell and Wayne Booth.

Thirkell scored his second and Birtley's third goal on 62 minutes and although John Sherlock reduced the deficit a minute later, the visitors were not unduly troubled.

Boldon CA moved up to sixth when they went nap at Nissan SSC Sunderland. An only goal by David Tate was all that separated the pair at the halfway stage but in the second period the visitors took control.

Tate completed his hat-trick and Adam McCaffrey and Lee Buglass added further goals.

New Marske topped the scoring stakes when they hit Ferryhill Athletic for six.

Paul Harrison, Andrew Ackerley, Lee Magor, Trefor Williams, Kirk Forsyth and Adam Taylor all struck with Dale Aunger and Stuart Illingworth scoring consolation goals for Ferryhill.

Coxhoe Athletic led Willington through Philip Lawson but after conceding an equaliser to Craig Luke, went down as Gary Mitchell took full advantage of a defensive mistake. Once again, Coxhoe played well but were out of luck in front of goal.

James Kesterton scored the only goal for Teesside Athletic at Wolviston where both sides were reduced to ten men. Athletic had Simon Welch sent off on the hour and eight minutes from time Wolviston's Richard Walker followed.

Stokesley SC reached the final of the North Riding County Cup defeating Teesside League leaders Carlin How 2-1. Craig Johnson and James Alsop (penalty) had them two goals ahead inside half an hour but when Glen Smith netted, it was all to play for in the last 30 minutes. Carlin How were unlucky having two efforts cleared off the line.

Three ties were played in the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup and Jarrow produced the shock of the day defeating championship contenders Whitehaven 3-0. Gary Atwell and John Grant scored before an own goal ended the Cumbrians' hopes.

Harton and Westoe lost 4-1 at Cleator Moor Celtic who scored twice in each half with Zak Rudd (two), Gareth Evans and Carl Fillingham the marksmen.

Ryhope CW scored twice in the last ten minutes to reach the semi-finals at the expense of Annfield Plain who had led through Kelvin Armstrong.

Michael Pattison restored parity and Thomas Hunt grabbed a dramatic last-minute winner.
