A COMMUNITY group was yesterday rewarded for its work in the village.
Dene Valley Community Partnership received a plaque from the British Urban Regeneration Association (Bura) for the role the villagers have played in the area.
The group won a Bura Regeneration Award, and was given the plaque by Dan Sequerra, who chaired the trust's selection panel.
More than 150 organisations entered the awards, and the Community Partnership was one of three overall winners.
Mr Sequerra originally presented the plaque at the House of Lords, but asked to re-present it at the Dene Valley One-Stop Shop so that he could meet some of the community behind the group, which holds training courses, a transport service and a library.
Margaret Ingledew, chairwoman of the group, said that they were honoured to receive the award and were delighted to have been recognised for their work.
She said: "We've worked hard to get things done in the Dene Valley. It makes you proud when you do get recognised. It was very fulfilling and satisfying."
The plaque will now be on display in the cafe area of the One-Stop Shop.
