PEOPLE in Killinghall were delighted when a Puffin light-controlled crossing was provided near the junction of the A61 and B6161 Otley Road.
With thousands of vehicles a day using the roads, crossing for pedestrians has been a hazard.
Councillor Heather Garnett said the busy junction had proved difficult for people using the village shop, and children gathering for school transport.
She said Killinghall Parish Council had been campaigning for the crossing, which is to be the first of several road safety schemes in the village.
