Nobby Solano last night assured Newcastle United fans that £9.5m signing Albert Luque will become at massive success at St James' Park.

But Solano also pleaded for patience from the supporters - and from the Spanish international who has struggled to establish himself at United.

The popular Peruvian revealed he's given advice to Luque, who is desperate to make an impact in the Premiership.

"He wants to do well and show that the money spent on him was a good choice, so I have told him to be patient," said Solano.

"It took me a while to settle into English football when I came over from South America because it's a different culture, a different mentality, and it takes time to adjust.

"I have told him it will be a lot quicker and more physical than the Spanish League and I think he realises that now.

"I've also pointed out to him that it often takes a bit of time for Spanish players to adapt. Look at Jose Antonio Reyes at Arsenal - and he is now a regular in the side.

"Good players can play anywhere, though, because they can adapt and Albert is a very good player. He will improve game by game and Newcastle will see the benefits. I'm very excited about playing in the same side as him."

Those opportunities have been limited because of the hamstring injury that sidelined Luque for ten weeks. He has not looked match fit since breaking back into the squad but Solano is confident Newcastle will soon see the quality which makes Luque a favourite to figure in Spain's World Cup team.

Solano said: "Albert is getting stronger and fitter all the time. He is a wonderful player and I think he can become a star at Newcastle United. He can be one of the best players in the Premiership.''
