David Hodgson will hold showdown talks with Tresor Kandol this morning before deciding the fate of the AWOL striker.

Kandol, who joined Darlington on-loan from Dagenham & Redbridge last month, finally returned to Darlington yesterday - six days after Hodgson allowed the 24-year-old to return to London to attend a family Christening.

Hodgson and chairman Stewart Davies will meet with Kandol and disciplinary proceedings may be taken if the forward fails to justify his absence.

It was reported by the player's agent that Kandol was involved in a car accident on Sunday but, after investigating those claims, Hodgson was unable to shed any further light on the situation.

Hodgson's less than sympathetic response last night strongly suggests Kandol's failure to report back for training was less innocent.

"I've been left angered and disappointed, to say the least, by what has happened," fumed Hodgson.

"I will be sitting down with the chairman and Tresor in the morning to discuss his future.

"Only then, when I have sat face-to-face with him, will I be able to make a decision."

With the transfer window closed until January and few other strikers at his disposal, Hodgson may be reluctant to send Kandol return to Dagenham & Redbridge.

Kandol was brought in as a replacement for striker Clyde Wijnhard, who was sacked by Hodgson in October.

And, during a run which has now seen Quakers win just twice in 15 games, Kandol's behaviour has done little to boost morale in Hodgson's squad.

"Nothing has gone right for this football club this season and things just seem to be going from bad to worse," added Hodgson. "It's just another incident we could have done without.

"In all my time as a manager I had never disciplined a single player until Clyde and now it looks as though it will happen twice in the space of a couple of months."

Hodgson turned to Kandol as the man he hoped would solve Darlington's goalscoring problems. But, so far, the forward has yet to open his Quakers account in three far-from-convincing starts.

It is understood that Kandol was to join Quakers permanently next month.

Kandol was missing for Tuesday's defeat at Shrewsbury, where Quakers' profligacy in front of goal was once again exposed.
