Christmas box: Workers from a North-East council have filled 365 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. Staff from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and the authority's strategic partners, Liberata and Jarvis, have collected toys, toiletries and sweets for the cause. The appeal sends shoeboxes to war-torn Eastern European countries. It is the sixth year of involvement for the council - and its best collection.
Road works: A one-week long temporary road closure was put in place on Grinkle Road, Dormanstown, near Redcar yesterday to allow work on a water main. There will also be two-way temporary traffic lights on Redcar Lane, Redcar, from today so cabling work can be carried out.
