MORE than 50 budding sports stars fought it out in a new football festival.
Five teams from Catterick and Scotland joined three local sides at Bedale in the first of what is hoped will become an annual event at Bedale's floodlit pitch.
Organisers Pip Gibbons and Tim Lambert saw the friendly fixture between Scotland Boys Club and the Bedale Juniors snowball into a 28-game tournament.
"What began life as simply a friendly game between the two clubs became a much bigger event," said Bob Taylor of Bedale Juniors.
"Our visitors from Scotland were highly organised and very skilful, but the local teams battled hard and produced some wonderful football. With the help of leisure centre staff, coaches from the clubs and parents, the tournament was a rousing success."
