DEDICATED football fans could be experiencing fame this week after their supporters' CD entered the music charts at number 26.

Poolie Pride, performed by the Monkey Hangerz and featuring Hartlepool band the Passion Killers, outsold Madonna's new single by ten copies to one at the town's Asda store when it went on sale on Monday.

It sold 1,400 copies in only a few hours and now hopes are high that sales will continue throughout the week, keeping the single in the charts until the weekend.

Passion Killers singer Phil Dunn said they decided to produce the four-track CD earlier this year when Hartlepool United went to Cardiff for the League Division One play-off final.

"It's totally amazing - we never expected to enter the charts at 26," said Mr Dunn.

"It sold 1,400 copies in the first day.

"We thought that if we sold enough, we might get into the charts, but we never thought it would be that good so quickly.

"The Passion Killers have been together for 11 years and we have never been in the charts - it's only now.

"We just hope that sales continue to be good so we can climb the charts and then we will make it into the chart rundown on Sunday, and even Top Of The Tops."

The CD includes a cover version of Pools' Rolf Harris favourite Two Little Boys and is retailing at £2.99 at Hartlepool Asda and the Music Zone, in the town's Middleton Grange Shopping Centre.

Father-of-two Mr Dunn, 40, who works at Portakabin, in Stockton, said the CD would make an ideal stocking filler for Christmas.

He said: "All of the proceeds are being equally split between the Sound Waves project, which gets primary school kids in the town involved in music, and the Hartlepool United Youth Academy, so it's all for a good cause.

"The club is enjoying an upturn in fortunes on the pitch, so we hope that goes through to the CD, as well."

A spokesman for the football club said: "We had them on the pitch at half-time at the weekend singing and one of the players has been signing copies of the CD as well.

"We are delighted with their efforts because money is being raised for good causes and we hope it's a great success and that sales continue.
