LINGERIE chain Ann Summers has opened its first concession in a department store and announced plans for further expansion.

The high street group, which sells sex toys and underwear, opened a concession in an Allders store in Surrey.

It recently opened an Ann Summers superstore in Cardiff and chief executive Jacqueline Gold confirmed earlier this year she was looking for sites for superstores in the North-East.

The stores will sell more lifestyle products alongside the core Ann Summers brand. The Cardiff store is four-times the size of other Ann Summers high street shops.

Ms Gold said: "I am very excited at the continued expansion of Ann Summers. With 124 stores and growing we are always looking at new retail channels and I believe concessions are the way forward for Ann Summers.

She told The Northern Echo in July that she was "definitely" looking for sites in the North-East.

With sales of £155m a year, Ann Summers is one of the UK's most successful private retailers.
