A mother accused of murdering her baby in a house fire appeared before a court today.
Danielle Wails appeared in a red slash-necked jumper and blue jeans. The 22-year-old was charged with the murder of her baby, four-month-old Alexander Lee Gallon on August 28 2005.
She pleaded not guilty at Newcastle Crown Court.
Tony Davis, defending, said: "The length of the witness list is only one of the problems we are encountering in this case.
"The defence case will mirror her statement to the police. She is not responsible for this, but two masked invaders came into her home and started this fire."
Wails, of Link Road, Cowgate, Newcastle upon Tyne, who appeared by video link from prison, leant forward attentively as barristers discussed her case.
The Recorder of Newcastle adjourned the case until November 15 for a case monitoring hearing.
