A NORTH Yorkshire village school is to mark its centenary with the building of a long-awaited classroom.
Despite serving a remote area of scattered villages, Leavening County Primary School, near Malton, will have 100 pupils on its register by the time it marks its 100th anniversary next spring.
Headteacher Lynne Markham said a worn-out temporary building at the school badly needed to be replaced.
She said: "Getting a new classroom will be wonderful and a marvellous way to mark our centenary as well as reaching 100 pupils."
The school is also planning a parade and other events to celebrate the milestone.
One of the highlights will be the recreation of a 1906 classroom which will take the form of a float.
