A SCHEME designed to give children the best start in life has been praised by Government watchdogs.
The quality and standards of care at SureStart South, in Hartlepool, were rated as good by Ofsted inspectors following an inspection during the summer.
Funded by the Government and based at a centre in Rossmere Way, SureStart South aims to give pre-school youngsters in the south of the town the best possible start in terms of health, ability to learn and social development.
Ofsted said SureStart South's work to help children lead healthy lives was "outstanding," highlighting the excellent hygiene routines at the centre, the quality of nutritious meals and snacks on offer, and the attention paid to individual youngsters' allergies and routines.
The inspector said: "Children enjoy very good relationships with each other and excellent relationships with staff."
Denise Sutton, SureStart South programme manager, said: "The inspector's findings reflect the dedication, enthusiasm and professionalism of our team."
