A STRATEGY focusing on the well-being of the over-50s will be launched today.

The Mayor of Hartlepool, Stuart Drummond, and Councillor Ray Waller, the council's cabinet member for adult and public health, will attend the launch at The Grand Hotel.

It will be chaired by Professor Gerald Wistow, a Hartlepool councillor who is an advisor to the Government's Department of Health.

The Hartlepool Older People Strategy aims to empower people 50 and over and ensure that their views and concerns are listened to.

It is part of a broad partnership of groups within Hartlepool, including the 50 + Forum, National Service Framework for Older People Local Implementation Team, Better Government for Older People Initiative, Hartlepool Borough Council, Hartlepool Primary Care Trust, the North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust, as well as independent and voluntary sector representatives.

Coun Wistow said: "The Hartlepool community has worked very closely with individuals and organisations to pull this strategy together.

"It has actually been produced by the people of Hartlepool, for the people of Hartlepool.

"Residents aged 50 and over will now have a channel to voice their views and opinions as never before."
