DAVID HICKMAN has been appointed North-East operations manager for Improve, the food and drink sector skills council.
He will be based in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, and will also cover the North-West and Yorkshire regions.
His job involves looking at what skills food and drink manufacturers need and providing a go-between with the regional development agencies and skills councils.
Mr Hickman, originally from South Shields, has joined after a spell as sector skills broker with the Learning and Skills Council. Previously, he spent 28 years in manufacturing engineering and management, including senior production management roles with Nestle and Kerry Foods in the North-East. He has a masters degree in business administration (MBA) from Newcastle University, and has spent all of his working life in the region.
