AN exhibition showcasing community regeneration projects that have helped hundreds of people to learn will be held in Durham next week.

The display, at County Hall, Aykley Heads, on Monday, will feature more than 20 exhibitors offering activities and information.

All the projects have been supported by the Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities Fund (NLDC).

The exhibition is managed and co-ordinated by the Aim High Network and the county council's education in the community service.

Visitors to the exhibition, which will be open from 10am to 4pm, will be able to try out career-matching computer software, check their weight, find out about alternative therapies and buy goods ranging from plants to hand-crafted jewellery.

The Aim High Network has managed NLDC funding in Easington, where more than 700 people have gained skills from a 12-week programme.

A Durham County Council spokeswoman said: "A Pop Idol competition held last year also attracted around 100, mostly young people, giving them an opportunity to have singing lessons and make a CD.

"The exhibition aims to show that, with some financial support, opportunities for adult learning can be developed at a local level."
