A SCOUT group is celebrating after reaching its target to purchase a new minibus.

The 1st St Helen Auckland Scout group has been raising money towards its £29,000 goal for the past 12 months.

The scouts have collected funds through various events, including race nights, donations and grants.

The group has named the new bus Alison in honour of Alison Smith, who organised many of the fundraising events.

John Bake, St Helen Scout leader, said: "The scouts have been fantastic.

"I'm really proud of the way that they have worked so hard to achieve the targets and I'm sure they will enjoy the results."

The scouts have been supported by local construction company the MMP Group, which lent them transport during their fundraising efforts and donated cash.

Mr Bake said: "Up until now, MMP has been kind enough to help us with transport. However, we thought it was about time we got our own minibus."
