A VILLAGE'S pensioners stepped back in time when they visited their local school to talk to pupils about wartime memories.

Pittington Primary School marked the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War on Tuesday, with a tea for residents over 60.

The event was organised by the school's Parent Teacher Association, with money from the Big Lottery Fund.

Pupils, dressed in period costume, sang wartime songs and there was an exhibition of memorabilia from the era for the visitors to look out.

The PTA wanted to stage an event that would bring the generations together and help youngsters learn about the war.
