POLICE are hunting a man who indecently assaulted a 16-year-old girl.

The girl was attacked following a night out with friends in Crook, County Durham. Two male passers-by came to her aid.

The incident occurred at 1am on Saturday as the teenager was walking along Hope Street.

The girl, who had been out with friends, left Bar 56 and The Circuit and started to walk home.

As she approached William Hill bookmakers, a man approached her, grabbed hold of her and carried out an indecent assault.

The victim tried to break free and screamed for help, and when two men arrived the assailant ran away through the cut behind Royal Corner.

The attacker was white, in his 40s, about 6ft and of medium build.

He had brown and grey hair, spiked on top and was wearing a blue Puffa-style or bomber jacket.
