A COUPLE'S lust got the better of them in front of shocked passers-by at a village bus stop.

Pedestrians rang police after seeing Michelle Randall and Michael Langley having sex on a patch of grass behind the shelter in Commercial Street, Brandon, near Durham.

But the couple, who were said to have been naked from the waist down, saw red when they were interrupted by police.

Randall reacted violently when a female officer tried to intervene and had to be subdued by the use of CS gas. Langley is also accused of assaulting another officer.

The pair appeared at Durham Crown Court yesterday where they both admitted a charge of outraging public decency by having sex in a public place - in broad daylight - on June 6.

Randall also admitted assaulting PC Elizabeth Richardson, with intent to prevent her lawful apprehension, and damaging a police vehicle in which she was taken to the police station.

Sentence was adjourned after a request by the couple's barrister, Peter Kilgour, who asked for reports to be prepared on Randall by the Probation Service.

The court heard she was made the subject of a drug treatment and testing order last year and received a community rehabilitation order for offences dealt with shortly before the bus shelter incident.

Judge John Walford agreed to the request for reports.

Randall, 25, of George Street, Langley Park, County Durham, and Langley, 26, of Lilac Avenue, Framwellgate Moor, Durham, were bailed to return for sentence on October 19.

Langley will be dealt with later by North Durham magistrates for allegedly assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
