Police are appealing for information after a series of collisions involving a taxi at several locations in south Durham at the weekend.

The white 14-seater minibus left the Crosshills Hotel, in Sedgefield village, at about midnight on Sunday (September 25) with two teenage passengers inside.

The vehicle travelled to Bishop Middleham where it dropped off one of the girls then, at about 12.45am on the Monday morning (September 26), the vehicle collided with an ornate lamppost outside a house in Meadow View.

It then travelled on to the village's South View where it collided with two stationary vehicles, a pick-up truck and a green Ford Fiesta.

The taxi drove on to Bishop Auckland where, at about 1.30am, the driver failed to stop after colliding with a blue Citroen AX injuring its two female occupants.

Minutes later the vehicle crashed into railings outside Asda supermarket, in South Church Road, and came to a halt.

PC Anne-Marie Gray, of Bishop Auckland police, said: "We know this vehicle began its journey at the Crosshills Hotel in Sedgefield and then travelled on to Bishop Middleham, back to Sedgefield into Shildon and onto Bishop Auckland.

"One of the teenage girls was being carried in the vehicle throughout and although she was only slightly injured she was badly shaken by the events that took place."

Anyone who witnessed the events is urged to contact Bishop Auckland police on 0845 6060 365.

The driver of the vehicle, a 56-year-old man from Trimdon Station, was arrested at the scene of the accident in South Church Road and has been bailed pending further enquiries.
