A TEENAGER who carried out a rape after drinking a litre-and-a-half of vodka has been locked up for seven years.

Sean Thomas Regan, 16, threatened to rape his victim's daughter during the attack at a flat in Skipton, North Yorkshire, in March.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and one charge of making threats to kill at Bradford Crown Court.

His victim, a 34-year-old mother of two, was asleep on the sofa at home when Regan broke in.

He was calm and almost gentle-looking, but his expression turned to one of hatred as he told his victim what he was going to do to her.

Judge Robert Bartfield described the attack as one of the worst he had come across and ordered that Regan, who was 15 at the time of the attack, could be identified, despite his age.

Sentencing him to seven years in detention on Monday, he said: "I would characterise your behaviour as that of a wild animal.

"This is one of the most disgusting rapes I have ever had to deal with."

The court heard that Regan was a hardworking student who could be shy at times.

His victim fled the flat after the attack and police later found Regan there almost naked and in a drunken stupor.

The next day he was interviewed and told officers he had no recollection of the attack, had been very drunk and had blacked out.

Regan, of Beanlands Place, Crosshills, near Skipton, was of good character and had no previous convictions.

He was ordered to sign the sex offenders' register indefinitely.

Detective Sergeant Matt Walker, of North Yorkshire Police, said after the sentence: "This was an absolutely appalling incident. It highlights the problems with young people drinking excessive amounts of alcohol."
