A COUNCIL has reassured people in Darlington that it has taken action to move two groups of travellers who have moved on to park land in the town.
About ten caravans have parked on land between Haughton Road and Devonshire Road, in the Haughton area of Darlington, but Darlington Borough Council said it expected them to have moved this weekend.
Yesterday, a spokeswoman for the borough council said: "We have started eviction proceedings and direction notices asking them to leave have been given to each caravan."
The council has the power to ask magistrates to intervene on Monday, should the travellers still be on the land.
